Vietnam Equity Weekly Note - August 11-15, 2025

The VN-Index opened the week with strong momentum, making a decisive attempt to surpass the 1,600-point mark. It briefly touched this threshold on Monday before easing slightly from its intraday high on profit-taking by retail investors.

By Tuesday, however, the strong performance of several large-cap stocks firmly pushed the Index above the 1,600 resistance, reaching a new all-time high of 1,666 points on Thursday before retreating modestly on Friday. Overall, the VN-Index gained 2.8% for the week, extending its month-to-date increase to 8.5% and year-to-date advance to 28.7%.

Throughout the week, except Friday, trading followed a familiar pattern: prices advanced in the morning, faced selling pressure mid-day, and rebounded toward the close as large-cap and select mid-cap stocks restored confidence. On Friday, however, selling pressure intensified, momentum weakened, and a broad correction emerged across small/mid-cap stocks, with some large caps also showing signs of fatigue
