Daily Market Watch 07/05/2026: Vingroup Stocks Pushed The Index To A New ATH, The Broad Market Suffered Though
MARKET HIGHLIGHTS
o Vietnam’s equity market opened sharply higher thanks to the positive movements of global markets. The VN-Index surpassed the 1,900 level, driven by strong gains in Vingroup stocks. VIC (+1.82%) and VHM (+3.11%) extended the rally in the morning and contributed largely to the gain of the VN Index (+0.8%) in the morning session. Mid-cap stocks also continued rallying. Gelex-related names including GEE and GEX both hit the daily limit. There were some other performers here and there such as LPB, STB which leverage the crypto license development. Trading activities in the broad market, however, weakened. Market breadth remained relatively mixed at the end of the morning with 147 gainers versus 142 decliners.
o In the afternoon session, the VN-Index extended gains to reach its intraday high at 1,924.95 points, marking a new all-time high. The rally was primarily supported by VN30 constituents, particularly VHM and VIC (both rose strongly further) Besides STB and GEX maintained at limit up price. Meanwhile, mid- and small-cap stocks turned negative as selling pressures built up in high beta names. Retail investors were more panic as the Index hover around the 1,900 pts level which is deemed as a solid resistance. Stocks in construction, oil& gas, fertilizer, brokerage, property, industrials saw heavy pressures and retreated across the board. Particularly, CTD plunged 10.7% from its intraday high to the floor price, followed by notable declines in PC1 (-3.79%), VCG (-3.66%), and HHV (-2.71%).
o The VN-Index eventually pared gains in the afternoon to close at 1,909 points (+0.9%). Vingroup stocks, Gelex related names, and STB contributed most of this return. Meanwhile, small/mid-cap stocks suffered and declined broadly. Market breadth turned negative with 191 decliners versus 119 advancers.
o Market liquidity improved significantly. Total trading value on the HoSE reached USD 1,136 mn (+24% DoD). Foreign investors extended their net selling streak to the 10th consecutive session, recording net outflows of USD 12 mn on HoSE today. Selling pressures concentrated in FPT (-USD 14.4 mn), ACB (-USD 11.4 mn), and KDH (-USD 4.6 mn). On the other side, foreign investors accumulated MSN (+USD 14.5 mn), GEX (+USD 5.5 mn), and POW (+USD 4.2 mn).
